The JDVSF Mourns the Passing of Board Member Carmelita Salvador

The John D. V Salvador Foundation is mourning the loss of Founding Board Member Carmelita Salvador, who passed away in early February after a long illness.

Ms. Salvador was instrumental in creating the JDVSF by introducing Founding Board Members M. Lizelle Salvador and Hugo Banziger to Fr. Boyet of San Martin de Porres as well as Eunice Cheng Chua. Throughout the 14 year history of the JDVSF. Ms. Salvador played a key role in planning, development and execution of all key initiatives through her close involvement and support, from her home in Manila and in frequent site visits to SMDP.

Ms. Salvador made her career at Rustan’s, a chain of luxury department stores in the Philippines.She began as the first employee and Travel Secretary for Rustan’s Founder, Mrs. Gliceria Tantoco, and rose to become the General Manager of Rustan’s International Trading Corporation, responsible for the logistics of the corporation’s eight subsidiaries. Over the course of her 38 years at the company, Carmelita played an instrumental role in making Rustan’s the successful company it is today. Before officially retiring in 2003, Carmelita worked full-time for Rustan’s from June 1965 to February 2003. After 2003, she continued as a part-time logistics consultant.

She leaves behind a large extended family in both the Philippines and the USA, and a legacy of kindness, caring and generosity to her family, her community and the JDVSF.
