During the last week of October Medical Checks for Children (MCC), an organization based in the Netherlands providing medical care to children in schools and orphanages in developing countries, visited Tondo for the third consecutive year.
The volunteer doctors examined over 890 sick children including numerous kids who were malnourished. Three are being treated at the Philippine Orthopedic Hospital.
After last year’s MCC visit, the doctors raised funds to have two children undergo heart surgery at the Philippine Heart Center. The surgeries were successful.
Since many more Tondo children need improved nutrition, medical care, education and other basic necessities, Chalice Canada, a Catholic ministry, is urgently working to get more people to donate and sponsor a child there.
