On May 17, 2011, JDVSF board members Lizelle Salvador and Hugo Banziger paid a visit to the children and the grounds of St. Martin de Porres home for children (SMDP) and to the future site of the half-way house in Tondo, Manila. The main goal of their visit was to finalize construction plans together with Father Boyet and the relevant parties involved in developing the half-way house project.
Structural Engineer, Leoncia Maneja, who graciously does all of her work pro-bono for the JDVSF & SMDP, expects to obtain planning approval from local authorities by mid-June 2011. Construction is slated to begin as early as July 2011 and weather permitting, the half-way house may be completed in six months time.
The half-way house will not only support and accommodate the graduates of SMDP who are pursuing education and work opportunities in the city, but it will also serve as Father Boyet’s local feeding center for malnourished children and offer basic medical services for mothers in need.
